Training-Workshop of “Formulation of Nutri-chip for Disaster Resiliency” on the cultivation of Mushroom, Seaweeds, and Moringa at Brgy. Imbo, Anda, Pangasinan

Chair Franchgil Mateo expressed his gratitude to CLSU and PSU for choosing Brgy Imbo as the pilot site.

Municipality of Anda, Pangasinan – As the identified pilot community of the CHED-funded project “Formulation of Nutri-chip for Disaster Resiliency”, a 3-day training-seminar on the cultivation of mushroom, seaweeds, and moringa participated by selected unemployed residents and wives of fisherfolks of Barangay Imbo was conducted last November 9-11, 2021.

The project’s main objective is to develop a full-packed nutri-chip (nutrition-packed food) out of mushroom, seaweeds and moringa which are abundantly available and cheap raw materials found in the country.

Part of the project is to tap communities that are most affected by natural hazards and with high incidence of malnutrition but have the potential to be sources of raw materials that can address their problems.

Training Needs Assessment (TNA) was conducted on November 9, 2021 at the Brgy Hall of Imbo.

The training-seminar was conducted to capacitate the community on how to culture and propagate the three main raw materials given the specific environmental conditions of the area. During the first day of the activity, a Training Needs Assessment (TNA) was conducted to evaluate the knowledge of the participants regarding the seminar topics. Further, the seminar proper was scheduled on the following days where Dr. Evaristo Abella was in-charge of the discussion on mushroom cultivation and Mr. Jeffrey Roque for demonstration, Prof. Joan Bayla for moringa cultivation, and Mr. Efren Monterola for seaweeds cultivation.

The series of activities was spearheaded by the program leader, Dr. Evaristo Abella and was accompanied by Dr. Gella Patria Abella, Asst. Prof. Ma. Johanna de Dios, Dr. Shella Parreno and Mr. Zhandon Paul Cario.
