Historical Background

The Center started as a special project of the Department of Biological Sciences, College of Arts and Sciences at the Central Luzon State University. It was established in February 1991 as a Mushroom Technology Laboratory. As such, it actively engaged in research, extension and training on mushroom science and technology.

After four years, the laboratory metamorphosed into a training and research center that caters to the technical needs of the academe and the industry. Despite a meager financial support but because of its strong desire to serve the rural populace, the center conducted research studies and generated practical technologies suitable to the rural communities of the region. The activities of the Center are firmly founded on the need to generate livelihood to ensure food security in the countryside, while at the same time protecting the environment.
